I’ve seen many posts on my Twitter/X feed about putting sound effects into videos and how to create more engaging content, so I decided to create a small guide with tips and also share the sound effects that I personally use for editing.

Basic rules when it comes to adding sound effects:

• When you want to emphasize/highlight a point or specific content (something funny, something sad, something important, etc)
• When you think back to how you felt during different parts of the video, add sound effects that match these emotions OR
• When you imagine someone watching your video, add sound effects that fit the reaction you’d want to elicit (e.g laughter, crying, confusion)
• If it’s gameplay, key moments like whiffing, deaths, kills, funny voice chats, etc
• Filler parts of your videos especially if there’s no visuals (Title sequence, transitions)
